3D Robot Character Design Week 2

3D Robot Character Design

    Week 2 (19/1/2023)

It's my first week for me to think about how to create my character. I had many animals in my head so I decided to make as many as possible, using many shapes to create robots.
This is my starting page for my presentation.

Even if the Pokémon caught my eyes, I created around 3 more characters for my character development just incase I could come up with more ideas and shapes.

1. A kangaroo boxer with overall circular shape, giving a soft but strong impression.
2. A frilled neck lizard thief who likes stealing shiny objects. it has a overall triangular shape giving a bad impression.
3. A mouse navigator who gives instruction to people where to go. overall circular shape, it is a friendly robot.
4. A bear fisher who fishes salmons lazily. it has a broad shoulder making it look lazy and unharmful.

I was torn between the bear and the lizard for they had strong characteristics, but in the end, I chose the

-Frilled-neck Lizard Thief -

due to its uniqueness animal breed, thinking maybe no one has ever done a frilled neck lizard before.

At first, I thought of the fan beside the lizard's neck to be one shape, but as I tried to think of how frilled neck lizards move, I saw that the fan is more flexible than I thought. So I increased the number and attached a ball joint to make it more flexible.

I also added more joints and parts to the tail, body, and neck to make the lizard more flexible since lizards really are in real life.

This robot's CHARACTERISTIC
Is a sly and sneaky thief, but clumsy.

    • I chose the overall shape as a triangle  --> Thieves don't give good impressions, and triangular shapes negatively represents evilness, so I chose the head, fingers, and tail to be sharp.
    • I made the body (backbone) and tail to be slim and long --> giving a more lizard-like shape. Also, long and slim gives a sneaky and cunning feeling, making it suitable to become a jewel thief.
    • I added big feet --> making the character look fast, but also clumsy at the same time.

As I said from the top, I got my robot inspiration from 'Dragapult' from Pokémon. I liked its long, sly eyes and its pointy head shape. Seeing it, it reminded me of a frilled neck lizard, so I added the fans and long body to the head.

Since its job is to steal jewels, I added a claw from a clawing machine for it to grab at objects easily.

This is the side and front view of my robot. It is around 5 heads tall.

These are the parts description of how I would make in MAYA. Since I have many ball joints in the neck, body, and tail, I would have to work really fast in order to submit it on time.
