3D Robot Character Design Week 3

3D Robot Character Design

    Week 3 (26/1/2023)

Today was the day of presenting the robot I made as midterm check. There were many things for me to change after the feedback so I wrote them down here. There were problems in the following slides before so I fixed it and posted it.

From this slide, I got the feedback that the anatomy doesn't look smooth since the neck bone parts were bigger than the backbone parts.
My lecturer told me that I had to change the neck thinner in order to look more humanly.

He told me that my robot had a good design since he could tell its characteristic from the features and silhouette. Although. he was a bit concerned about having too much ball joints but since the flexibility was the main part of my robot, he said I could do it.
My robot has a sneaky and sly but clumsy characteristic.
I honestly didn't think of how to make the lizard more clumsy just by the silhouette, but my lecturer told me that the hip smaller than the upper body makes a character look clumsy. Additionally, the slim legs and long tail makes the robot even more clumsy.
So I had to add these explanation to the slide.

He also asked me how I would show emotions with just my head. So I explained that I would use the neck fan as a cat's ear to show emotions, but I forgot to say that the mouth is also movable. He said that I would have to write the descriptions specifically down also so people would know.

From this slide, I was told that the reference explanation was too little. I should have written sentences describing what or where they were used for and not just write what they are in one to two words.

I changed the reference board by putting more description of what the pictures are and what they do so that the audience would understand what I intend to make with the references.
(I would have to put more references later)

From this slide, I was told that the ball joint in the hip needed to make a straight line with the knee joint and the ankle joint. Since we need to follow the human structure, the ball joint should not be in the hip.

I added the details of how I would show the clumsiness by the silhouette.(Using the tails and legs to show a bit of wobbliness)
I also fixed the anatomy by making the back thicker than the neck.

I moved the hip ball joint outwards so that the knee, hip, and ankle joints would line up to match the human anatomy.

(The fans and mouth would need more drawing and descriptions so I didn't put it in the slides yet.)

I changed the neck and the back thickness that was told from the front slide.

To organize the feedbacks,
  1. The body (backbone) needs to be thicker than the neck, due to the human body's structure, or it would give a abnormal anatomy.
  2. Make the citations like sentences, explaining the reasons I chose the pictures and not only words showing what the picture is, and also putting more references for people to understand the concept of the robot.
  3. Have to explain how I would show emotions with just only the head.
  4. Ball joint in the thigh needs to come out, making a straight line with the knee and ankle joints.
  5. Need to add how the silhouette could be clumsy.

Comments

  1. The character design is really nice since through one look I can already tell it is inspired by randy from monsters inc :0

  2. I really like the way you put attention into the detail, like explaining each part of the robot and also what's included in the robot :>
