3D Robot Character Design Week 12

Image
3D Robot Character Design       Week 12 (30/3/2023) I was breaking down the key poses for my animation and I realized that 2 seconds couldn't be enough for my robot to run. I tried to animate it but it looked like the video speed was more than normal  1 2 3 My last running scene was 2 seconds but realized that I should reduce the durations of other scenes and put more on the last scene so I changed it.  I also finished the lighting turntable and got confirmed by my lecturer.  this is the final lighting turntable for my robot My robot color was too dark to put 2~3 lights. So I added area lights on the dark parts like the tail, thigh, etc. to make it lighter.  I also put the floor texture since it looked too boring.  I realized that the texture looked too simple and less metallic. If I get to have some time, I might put more bumps or textures to make it more appealing. before making darker and lighting I have finished most of the blockin...

3D Robot Character Design Week 11

3D Robot Character Design       Week 11 (23/3/2023) This is the lighting turntable I tried.  I changed the hand and moved it lower for the hand silhouette to be seen better.  I had to make the environment like a safe place to protect jewels and to make the laser look like it has 2 walls for it to connect.  I made 2 columns for the laser to connect a table for the emerald to take place some safe boxes to decorate the environment and a small wall for the lizard to come out. later, I realized that the floor was too dark and can't really see the walls since the colors seemed the same. I would have to make lights and re-arrange the wall colors to make them more natural. I added a temporary directional light to see the overall texture of the background, but I think its okay so I finished the texturing and started making key poses for the animation. I added mesh light to the laser so it would look like it. I tried using Blinn but when rendered, it was ...

3D Robot Character Design Week 10

3D Robot Character Design       Week 10 (16/3/2023) Today I did the turntable and also the lighting.  this was the first turntable pose I did. I wanted it to look happy for getting the emerald (I chose emerald as the jewel to make a opposite color with the lizard's dark purple) I made the s curve for the whole body to look happy or energetic and made the mouth wide open while looking at the jewel he stole.  my lecturer told me that I had to make the lizard curved in also side, top, and back view to avoid stiffness.  He also wanted me to move the camera so people could see the silhouette of the robot better, especially the hand so I changed the angle. And with the hip tilted too much, the robot looked too abnormal for a human structure so I had to tilt it a little. I changed the body line more curvy from many sides I also tilted the hip little so it would look more normal than before.  I changed the camera angle to show the lizard's front si...

3D Robot Character Design Week 9

3D Robot Character Design       Week 9 (9/3/2023) I had to make some changes to the orthographic and turntable sheet. I needed to take out the red lines in orthographic and add the heads in turntable.  I took out the red lines (head lines) and changed the orthographic more clean for others to see clearly. I added the heads beside the turntable sheet  I also finished the full body rigging for the robot. there were some issues with the tail hinge that was made for grabbing things. Every time I added SDK, one of the hinge wont work. I didn't know why until I realized that I had put the SDK key on rotation X when I had to put it on rotation Y. Some how I fixed it.  it took around 2 weeks for me to fully finish the full body rig I had put the SDK in the tail hinge, mouth, and the toe-tap rig.

3D Robot Character Design Week 8

3D Robot Character Design       Week 8 (2/3/2023) I finished with the texturing and started adding the bump maps and rigging the body.  I added bump maps in the places where the joints meet, under the foot, and tail/neck/backbone so that it shows that the robot is clean but also a bit old.  I assumed that the clean but also the bumpy and rusted texture would show the robot's instinct to steal jewels better.  I put the bumpy and rusted texture in a place that's a bit out of sight to show that the robot is actually clean but also old. I also started to do the rigging.  I did the body controllers and everything  I also put the correct rig in the right side of the foot I had 4 parts for the foot so I didn't know how to rig it, so I just put the same control as the toe-tap for the first and second heel (it worked eventually.. :( ) But as I checked the rig again, I found out that the left side foot's foot bend rig didn't work.. Also all the ...

3D Robot Character Design Week 7

Image
3D Robot Character Design       Week 7 (23/2/2023) Today I made a few changes to the robot since my lecturer thought that the robot looked a bit simple.  I made a change in the textures and the modeling. I added 2 more antennas on the head and a thick line across the face from one eye to the other.  I added a panel on the chest plane to put a simple logo for the robot.  I added some buttons on the side of the chest and more buttons on the side of the tails. I added more details to the back so the back wont look too simple.  I finished with the coloring the robot and adding little rusted colors on the fan, foot and tails to insert bump maps later when finishing the texturing.  front side back I also finished the treatment for the robot and I got some advices I had to change.  I had lines that I had to take away for the orthographic. I forgot to put the head on the side of the turnaround. For some reason I had an empty page, maybe b...

3D Robot Character Design Week 6

Image
3D Robot Character Design       Week 6 (16/2/2023) Today was the week to finish the robot modeling and texturing. I didn't have much time to do the texturing, but I finished modeling and putting colors I designed for the character. I put the light dome to see how the lizard would look like when rendered.  I forgot to use aiStandardSurface to put coloring and used Lambert instead. I realized that the colors would become lighter when used lambert. I will have to change that later.  front side render Side view render  back side render There were many things for me to change in the modeling so it took more time for me to do the UVs and coloring.  I haven't done the pivot point yet.
